If a water leak is coming from your unit, try to stop the leak in one of the following ways:
Each location with water should have a water shut off. This includes every sink, toilet, dishwasher, refrigerator and washer. The location may be different for all. Turn the angle stop to the off position.
In the event turning off the angle stop does not solve the problem, turn the water off in the hallway. Water shutoffs are located in the hallway near the ceiling outside of each unit. You should be able to see a water line going into each unit from the hallway. Retreive a ladder from a staircase and turn the water off.
Water leaks in units
Within a unit, water leaks may happen. It is important that owners work together to resolve water leaks. Owners can either knock on doors above them or call call the Management Company and get a telephone number of owners above their unit.
A leak from above does not mean it is coming from directly above. Leaks can happen within walls. Water can also travel horizontally. You may need to contact owners of units on either side above you. Once the source is determined, it will clarify who is responsible for the necessary repairs.
