Recycling
A recycling dumpster is in the garage for resident disposal of approved items. Items must be “household” and include metal cans, recyclable plastics, broken down cardboard boxes and paper.
Items previously used in food storage (to go boxes) must be clean of food residue prior to placing into the recycling dumpster.
Mixed materials (e.g. plastic and paper) must be separated.
Items NOT permitted include but not limited to:
Mattresses, box springs, or bed frames
Water heaters or HVAC equipment
Items with food waste (pizza boxes, to go containers)
Porcelain sinks or toilets
Packaging with plastic bubble wrap or Plastic wrap
Grocery bags (take them back to the store)
Appliances of any size
Electronic equipment (to include but not limited to televisions, phones, computers, monitors, speakers)
Furniture
Styrofoam and/or Styrofoam peanuts
Wet items
Glass
Construction debris
The recycling area is NOT A DUMPING GROUND for unwanted items. Do not leave any item outside of the dumpster. Consider Good Will, Lost and Found Youth, NextDoor, Facebook Marketplace for gently used items with useful life.
Hard to Recycle Items
Hard to recycle items can be taken to CHaRM.
CHaRM is located at 1110 Hill ST SE. See their website for hours. For larger items, a rental truck may be needed (A U-Haul facility is in the neighborhood on Peters Street).
CHaRM accepts many items. Some items are free, but some have a minimal cost.
Most items on the Deer Lofts prohibited list are accepted.
In addition, CHaRM will take your leftover paints and household chemicals.

When the dumpster is full, keep your recyclables in your unit.

Household Waste
Waste is defined as items generated by your household (plastic wrap, food debris, paper products contaminated with food waste.
Waste pick up services are provided several times weekly by a commercial trash hauler.
All items must be bagged and tied.
Residents on floors 2-5 are serviced with a trash chute near the 07 units. Residents on the first floor will place their waste in the trash room in the garage.
When the dumpster is full, the trash chutes may be locked. In this instance, hold your trash in your unit. Do not place in the chute room or in the trash room next to the dumpster.
Do not place oversized items in the trash chute. Forcing items through the hole may cause items to be lodged in the chute. Offending homeowners may be billed for a service calls.
Do not leave any item on the floor in the trash chute rooms.

Rugs
Electronic equipment
Composting
Several residents subscribe to an optional composting pick up service called CompostNow.
It is a subscription based service.
